
Kamilah Majied
Dr. Kamilah Majied, MSW, PhD is a mental health therapist, social work educator, researcher, and internationally engaged consultant on sustaining work for justice using meditative practices. Dr. Majied enjoys engaging people in experiencing wonder, humor, and insight through transforming oppressive patterns and deepening relationships toward ever-improving individual, organizational, and communal wellness. After 15 years of teaching at Howard University, Dr. Majied is now a Professor of Social Work at California State University, Monterey Bay. She has taught contemplative practice from several perspectives including mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, mindfulness and racial justice, Buddhism and mental health, and mindfulness practices to preserve the environment. As Co-investigator in the Contemplative Coping During COVID Research Project at the UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain, she has helped to create culturally sensitive study materials and is guiding the presentation and publication of the findings. She is the founder of Majied Contemplative Consulting, where she uses meditative practices in justice sustainability and leadership development. Her expertise includes guiding organizations in improving processes and policies while actively dismantling structural oppression. She is the author of multiple articles and chapters on contemplative practice, and her book Joyfully Just: Black Wisdom and Buddhist Insights for Liberated Living was published by Sounds True in 2024.
